Man Candy of the Year

OK, so this took some discussion. I said Michael Phelps. Jess said no. We almost made it Matt Stafford, but after consideration...we settled on by far the best choice.

Here's to you Edward Cullen, by far the hottest quasi vampire ever, well, especially this year. No one else even came close in terms of hottness and relevancy this year. Your being super hot was the only bearable part of Twilight so bravo.

Top Moment of 2008

So it's hard to put the whole year of 2008 in to one specific moment or event, but I think this comes pretty close.

Top Sports Moments of 2008

Now, we didn't both come up with lists so this is mainly Katy's list with some help from Jess.

UGA winning the SEC title in basketball (aka Katy's birthday miracle)
Seeing Kasey Kahne win in person @ Pocono
Seeing Jamie McMurray at the Bellagio (he's sorter in person)
Michael Phelps...everything he did.
Weekend trip to NYC to see a game at Shea and Yankee Stadiums
Pretty much anything Matt Ryan did
Mike Mussina winning 20 games
UGA manhandling Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl...too bad it didn't last

ffiore957 (12:55:11 AM): dustin pedroia won mvp
ffiore957 (12:55:13 AM): you like him
skitchkd (12:55:18 AM): hmm not so much
ffiore957 (12:55:28 AM): well i like him

Top albums of 2008

Katy's list

Coldplay - Viva La Vida
Sia - Some People Have Real Problems
The Killers - Day and Age
The Ting Tings - We Started Nothing
Kings of Leon - Only By the Night

Jess's list

Metropolis: The Chase Suite - Janelle Monae

This was hard for me (Katy) since I've seen maybe ten movies all year...one of which was Twilight (which was crap, minus the Edward hotness).

In random order...

Jess's list

The Dark Knight
Cloverfield
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Baby Mama
Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

Katy's list

Dark Knight
Wall E
Sex and the City
Cloverfield
Be Kind Rewind

Top songs of 2008

So it's that time of year again, and we are just like everyone else and feel the world should know about our favorites of the year. As a disclaimer...yes, we know some of these songs didn't come out in 2008, but we DISCOVERED them this year. That is the important part.

In no particular order...

Katy's list
Paper Planes - MIA
Realize - Colbie Cailait
Foundations - Kate Nash
Larger then Lifesize - A Fine Frenzy
Lost? - Coldplay
Bruises — Chairlift
Shut Up and Let Me Go - The Tings Tings
Viva La Vida - Coldplay
Kelsey - Metro Station
Live Your Life - T.I. feat Rihanna

Jess's List
Sun Goes Down - David Jordan
Paper Planes - M.I.A.
Viva la Vida - Coldplay
Barrowland Ballroom - Amy Macdonald
Chasing Pavements - Adele
Violet Stars Happy Hunting! - Janelle Monae
That's Not My Name - The Ting Tings
5 Years Time - Noah and the Whale
I Like You So Much Better When You're Naked - Ida Maria
American Boy (ft. Kanye West) - Estelle

(NOTE: This video is messed up - the sound and the picture are out of synch. But you get the idea.)

And because we love these songs in ourown little way...honorable mention for Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis, See You Again by Miley Cyrus and (just Katy) Burnin' Up by the Jonas Brothers and (just Jess) When I Grow Up by the Pussycat Dolls.

Jam of the week

Not Christmas music but I listen to this song on repeat.

Good tidings

I know, cutting it a little short considering there is only like an hour of Christmas left but some of us hardworking people had to deliver the news today. Gosh. Jess and I just wanted to say Happy Holidays to all of our faithful readers our there. There would obviously be no McCluca without you and even though many of you are silent lurkers, we still appreciate the readership. So to celebrate, I include this always appropriate clip from Love Actually.

We know we did no Man Candy this week, but keep a look out New Year's Eve for Man Candy of the Year (hint, Matt Ryan is not eligble).

Mid-week Man Candy

Sorry this is late - I lost my phone in Athens today, so I didn't get Katy's reminder text. On the bright side, I'm getting a new phone tomorrow. Unless I have to wait until I get back to Texas, which would suck. Anyway...

This week's Man Candy is Will Arnett. I don't think he's ever made a good movie, but his TV career totally makes up for it. Arrested Development is one of the best shows of all time, and he also has an excellent recurring role on 30 Rock. Plus he's married to Amy Poehler. Oh, and did I mention he's Canadian? Awesome. So get to work on that Arrested Development movie, Will, and make sure it doesn't suck, OK?

Michael Bluth: So this is the magic trick, huh?
George Oscar 'Gob' Bluth: Illusion, Michael. A trick is something a whore does for money...
[sees children watching his magic]
George Oscar 'Gob' Bluth: ...or candy!

Mid-week Man Candy

I couldn't actually remember if it was my job (Katy) to do it this week. My brain is so fried from finals and papers...but I am doing anyways.

Here's to you, Rob Lowe aka Sam Seaborn aka Robert McCallister. An oldie but a goodie. He's been smokin' hot since Jess and I were babies, but he is still going strong. I am partial to the West Wing Rob Lowe since it is probably my favorite TV show ever and he's just super adorable on it. He makes speechwriting super sexy. So bravo.

Mid-week ritual?

ffiore957 (11:37:23 PM): as much as i don't like him, i think he should be man candy of the year
SkitchKD (11:38:00 PM): haha shouldn't he have had to be man candy already to be eligble?
ffiore957 (11:38:12 PM): hasn't he ever been man candy?
SkitchKD (11:38:22 PM): i dont think so
ffiore957 (11:38:39 PM): weird
ffiore957 (11:38:45 PM): i feel like every other post is about him
SkitchKD (11:38:49 PM): haha bc it is
ffiore957 (11:38:59 PM): i guess so
ffiore957 (11:39:32 PM): maybe we should change it to mid-week matt ryan
SkitchKD (11:40:09 PM): nah bc i dont want it to just be limited to mid week only
ffiore957 (11:40:33 PM): you're so right

Or whateva

I know I'm pretty late in jumping on this bandwagon, but I love jakeandamir.com. As in I've watched more than 100 online videos in the past four days. This is the most recent video they posted:

EDIT: It looks like the video is too wide for the blog, which sucks. So if you want to see it in all its super-wide glory, go here instead.

SkitchKD (11:41:53 PM): i bet you love jake
ffiore957 (11:42:09 PM): why would you assume that?
SkitchKD (11:42:16 PM): look at him
ffiore957 (11:42:27 PM): you know me so well

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays

So I popped in my *NSYNC Christmas CD because I enjoy it so this time of year, and it was scratched and wouldn't play. I was sad. But here is a little jam of the disc which just puts me in a festive holiday mood, especially during this time of immense stress and papers and finals.

MA-RIO!

We love how he throws things off his little cart.

Mid-week Man (Men) Candy

Ok as a disclaimer, we just want to say brace yourselves. We have never done anything this huge before. But we just can't help ourselves.

ffiore957 (9:55:02 PM): we might have to stop doing it because there's no way to top this

Here's to you, hotties of Gossip Girl. I (Katy) have been on the GG bandwagon since it's inception and am pleased to report that Jess has now gotten sucked in as well. One part that makes this show so awesome is these fly guys (from top): Ed Westwick aka Chuck Bass; Chace Crawford aka Nate Archibald; and Penn Badgley aka Dan Humphrey. I went through a Dan phase and a Nate phase, but now, Jess and I are both in such a Chuck Bass phase. They each bring something to the table. Dan (Penn) with his outsider on the inside mentality, struggling to survive in the world of the Upper East Siders. Nate (Chace) with a father now arrested and a mother in denial, as well as one crazy love triangle and former flame of queen bee, Blair Waldorf (my personal favorite), trying to process it all. And then Chuck (Ed). The son of a tycoon who is a womanizer with a sometimes heart of gold who is charming as can be. This is one guilty pleasure which we cannot live with out. So bravo, men of Gossip Girl. We know we love you. XOXO, McCluca.

And this is pretty much the perfect accent...

Viva Las Vegas

It's that time of year again - these here bloggers are planning their annual trip to the great city of Las Vegas. Oh, it is the most wonderful time of the year. This time around, we are quite excited because this is where we are staying...

It's like we're going to be in one of my favorite cities, within another of my favorite cities. Happy, happy, joy, joy. They have the little Eiffel Tower drink stirs. So exciting. And a creperie. Even more exciting (because I love crepes).
