Important announcement

OK everyone. Jess and I have been discussing, and we think it is time to move Mccluca from blogspot to Tumblr. It really isn't that life-altering, but we are giving y'all some notice because it is definitely happening. All we really do is post photos, videos, and chats and Tumblr is just set up in a way that is more conducive to this type of blogging. And it's really cool and you can follow people so it's kinda like Facebook or Twitter in that sense. We will still update and such, probably more since we are both Tumblr fiends right now. I think most of our avid readers (all, like, three of you) already have Tumblr so this shouldn't really mess with anything. And for those who don't, well you should be the Tumblr. The end.

OK so here it is:

mccluca.tumblr.com

We don't have a theme or any posts yet but follow anyway.

Mid-week Man Candy

I don't know why I picked Jon Stewart this week. Let's call it a whim. Jon Stewart is not only a good-looking man (and getting better looking with age), but he is also very smart. I'm always impressed by the number of topics he seems to know everything about. Also, he's really funny, which makes anyone about 10 times hotter. So, Jon Stewart: hot, smart, funny, and probably a very nice guy. Yep, that's about it.

Mid-Week Man Candy

With the beginning of baseball comes some major league hotties...

Here's to you David Wright and John Maine, by far two of the hottest men in baseball. Of course there is more to these guys than just looks. David was an MVP candidate last year and John consistently (well, sometimes) delivers in the clutch. Know what else is pretty cool? Both of them from Virginia. Ain't that something?

Mid-week Man Candy

Remember how Lisa Turtle from Saved by the Bell loved Kevin Costner? Well, she was right. In the late 80s/early 90s, he was super hot. Field of Dreams is one of my all-time favorite movies. I could watch it a thousand times, and I'd probably still cry at the end. Bull Durham is pretty great, too. And I can't lie - I watched Rumor Has It recently, and he's still a good looking guy. So here's to Kevin Costner's two decades of hotness.

Note: We were thinking about making today's man candy an April Fool, but it didn't really work out. I guess this is kind of a joke because Katy has no idea who I'm posting, but I'm totally serious about how much I love Kevin Costner.

I feel bad...

I feel like Jess and I have been ignoring McCluca since our recent love affair with Tumblr has occurred. Don't worry faithful readers...we will still be updating here.

However, if you are interested in our Tumblrs, just check 'em out.

McNuggets Away!

I knew I remembered watching a commercial for McDonalds when I was younger, in which a bunch of nuggets parachuted into different kinds of dipping sauce. No one, not even my family, believed it existed. Behold, the magic of YouTube.

Mid-week Man Candy

I (Katy) just absolutely dominated my outline for my persuasion theory paper. Yea, son. So as a celebration, Man Candy for all our faithful readers.

Also, as a side note, I've received a few requests from some of our readers to have Man Candy be an actual real-life person (aka not a celebrity or athlete). If anyone has an opinions or feedback on this proposition, let us know. I think we should have a virtual Man Candy pageant, but that's just me.

Here's you, Mike Green, pretty much the hottest NHL defenseman in all the land. Since the Washington Capitals are my newly adopted favorite hockey team, I obviously had to pick a favorite player and there was no doubt in my mind that Green is my guy. Yea, Ovie is a popular pick, but no one skates on the ice with the hot Canadian-ness that is Mike Green. Yes, he is about seven months younger than me which may classify me as a cougar, but I would go on the prowl for him. So here's to you, Mike.

Si se puede

ffiore957 (11:00:18 PM): i think the problem is the themes they have on here
ffiore957 (11:00:21 PM): they're too boring
SkitchKD (11:00:31 PM): haha eff that
ffiore957 (11:00:42 PM): i guess i could make my own eventually

SkitchKD (11:01:22 PM): YES YOU CAN
ffiore957 (11:01:29 PM): that is very empowering

I would...

SkitchKD (10:26:31 PM): do you know who jay wright is?
ffiore957 (10:26:45 PM): that sounds vaguely familiar, but no
SkitchKD (10:26:57 PM): he coaches villanova
ffiore957 (10:27:01 PM): ok

Mid-week Man Candy

I don't care how much negative press he's getting, I love Jimmy Fallon. Because of him (and Tina Fey), I haven't missed an episode of SNL in almost 9 years, and I paid way too much for the special edition DVD of Fever Pitch. And yes, I do watch the new Late Night. Whoever is booking the guests is doing an amazing job, but oh man - some of Jimmy's jokes are absolutely tanking. I feel bad. He's a funny guy and he seems really nice. I did actually meet him once, outside the Tabernacle after he opened for The Strokes, and he was very nice. Also, I am "that girl" - during his set, I yelled that I loved him. He said he loved me too, but now he's married to someone else, so whatever. Anyway, yay for being back on TV, and I hope his show turns out to be as good as Conan.

Cold sweats

This makes me want to have a panic attack right here because this would be my worst nightmare. I feel like only grad students really feel the pain.

Today, friends threw me a party for finishing my dissertation. I've worked on it for months. They carried my computer downstairs to have music, dropping it halfway. My work was on there. Only back-up? On my flash drive I just found on the floor, crushed by someone's foot. It's due tomorrow. FML

Too good not to share

Mid-week Man Candy

I'm really excited about this one. Jess told me to surprise her, not that this is surprising.

Here's to you, Kyle Chandler aka Coach Eric Taylor from Friday Night Lights. I freakin' love you. How can you resist his boyish good looks and adorable charm? I remember watching Early Edition and thinking you totally deserved to get the paper early because of your hotness. He also had a guest role on Grey's Anatomy...but he died :(...oh well. Oh did I mention that he went to the University of Georgia? Damn skippy. I remember there being rumors of him speaking at graduation the year I walked. That would've been amazing.

Prank war

You may know that I (Jess) love CollegeHumor.com and everything associated with it. Streeter and Amir have been involved in an esclating prank war for a couple of years now. About a year and a half ago, Amir pulled off an epic prank, the Yankee Prankee. It was amazing. Well, last night, Streeter totally got him back, and it was hilarious.

America's next short model

SkitchKD (10:22:05 PM): too bad i'm going to be post op
SkitchKD (10:22:10 PM): bc they are having auditions in dc for antm sat
SkitchKD (10:22:12 PM): the short cycle
ffiore957 (10:22:16 PM): too bad
ffiore957 (10:22:27 PM): you said you wanted to do short size modeling
ffiore957 (10:22:30 PM): that would be your chance
SkitchKD (10:22:32 PM): I KNOW
ffiore957 (10:22:57 PM): you should go anyway
SkitchKD (10:23:10 PM): this isn't a toothless model search
ffiore957 (10:23:18 PM): they'll understand
SkitchKD (10:23:23 PM): doubt it
ffiore957 (10:23:27 PM): it's probably like a pre--audition anyway
SkitchKD (10:23:32 PM): i could just do blue steel all the time
ffiore957 (10:23:52 PM): joanie's teeth were pretty bad and they let her on the show

John Mayer is in my fave Twitter five

johncmayer I'm about to call my shrink. Nothing's really wrong so I'm going to make some stuff up to talk about. Like how I eat to mask my dyslexia.

Mid-week Man Candy

This week's man candy is Matt Damon. I don't really have anything to say, other than I absolutely love him. I started clipping pictures of him out of Seventeen magazine about 11 years ago. I don't do that anymore (do they even still publish Seventeen?), but he still has a special place in my heart. He's made some pretty amazing movies, he's really smart and he seems like a really nice guy. Oh, and he was the 2007 Sexiest Man Alive. I realize that is not the best picture of him, but it is important because I once saw him talking about the Red Sox on TRL and it changed my life. No kidding, I am that lame. So thanks, Matt Damon, for being so awesome and for giving me the gift of the Red Sox.

Another fly jam

This is the free single on iTunes this week and I love it. Actually the whole CD is fabulous.

SkitchKD (11:14:49 PM): did you hear about what happened on the bachelor?
ffiore957 (11:14:55 PM): yes
SkitchKD (11:15:01 PM): paul told me
ffiore957 (11:15:15 PM): paul would watch the bachelor
SkitchKD (11:16:07 PM): it was the first time he'd ever seen it
ffiore957 (11:16:12 PM): sure it was
SkitchKD (11:16:17 PM): oh i believe him
ffiore957 (11:16:34 PM): it would suck to be that first girl
SkitchKD (11:16:37 PM): i know
SkitchKD (11:16:46 PM): i wonder what happened tonight
ffiore957 (11:17:36 PM): what was tonight?
SkitchKD (11:17:43 PM): they had another after the rose thing
ffiore957 (11:17:50 PM): oh really?
ffiore957 (11:18:04 PM): i hope someone punched him
SkitchKD (11:20:20 PM): i would've kicked him in the balls

OK, so...for as much crap as I have talked about Twitter in the past...I now find myself completely wrapped in it. I created my own name separate from this blog (just because I know Jess would not sanction frequent updates about Matt Ryan @McCluca...even tho that is pretty much what the blog is...oh well). Follow me @thekdeluca and Jess @fiore_957.

Vegas snipets

OK, so we're not going to tell you everything that happened in Vegas. Some of it is NSFW (jk of course) and some you guys could follow on our Twitter. But here are a few highlights.

* Our hotel was freakin' awesome...stay at Paris. Great hotel bar...
* Discounted tickets to the Beatles LOVE show at the Mirage. A-MAZ-ING. Like no joke.
* Food. Really good Mexican (gigantic drinks) @ Planet Hollywood (buffet was good too).
* Jess winning a bunch of money on penny slots and craps...Katy not so much.
* Spending a ridiculous evening with four guys who worked for Richard Petty Motorsports including a member of Kasey Kahne's pit crew and a guy who sometimes is a spotter for Elliot Sadler. And a guy who does marketing for them who really likes giving high fives.

I think that's all for now. Will update if there are more things I have forgotten.

Mid-week Man Candy

We are back. Hope you followed the Twitter. If you did, let us know and maybe we'll consider doing more stuff like it in the future.

Here's to you Jon Favreau (the speechwriter, not the actor). I've been wanting to post him for awhile just so everyone could bask in his hotness, but I waited for an opportune moment...and Obama's speech last night gives me the perfect opportunity. While I didn't actually hear the speech since I was on a plane back from Vegas, I'm pretty sure it was awesome because everything he does is awesome. He's 27-years-old and is Obama's director of speechwriting. He's pretty much what I want to be. So here's to you, Jon. Keep doing what you're doing.

McCluca in Vegas - Twitter-fied

OK, the moment has finally arrived. We are less than 12 hours from a glorious McCluca reunion on our flight from Houston to Vegas! Woo.

So this means the real test of our Twitter feed. As you can see, we have it linked to the blog on the right had side so you can keep up to date with what we are doing etc etc. You can also follow us on the actual Twitter site if you want.

We want you to enjoy our excitement. The end.

Mid-week Man Candy

Before I start, I have to mention that last Friday was our one-year blog anniversary. And we forgot. Oops. So thank you, everyone, for reading. A year ago, I was pretty sure we would get bored of blogging after a couple of weeks, but this milestone just proves that this probably was a good idea after all.

Anyway...

This week's Man Candy is Jon Hamm. This marks the second time one of Liz Lemon's boyfriends has been honored in Man Candy, and that is because she has excellent taste in men (except maybe Dennis). How can you not love a man who bakes? Jon Hamm is very handsome and very funny. I don't really like Mad Men, but he was a great SNL host and I always appreciate a good James Mason impression. So although we know he's only booked for a few episodes, we wish he could stick around 30 Rock a little longer than Floyd, who we miss very much.

SkitchKD (11:46:05 PM): i would like a battle bt jon hamm and floyd
ffiore957 (11:46:16 PM): what kind of battle?
SkitchKD (11:46:44 PM): a battle for liz lemon
ffiore957 (11:47:36 PM): i think floyd would win
SkitchKD (11:47:50 PM): for what reasons
ffiore957 (11:48:17 PM): because i want him to

If I were to submit something to Eff My Life

Today, I fell down the stairs and sprained my ankle. I hit my face on the ground and my fake tooth fell out. Now I look like a hillbilly. FML.

**DISCLAIMER** This did sorta happen...just like three months ago.

Jam of the moment

We all know that Jess and I LOVE the Killers. So this doesn't really require a lot of explanation. This song is just so catchy and so awesome. If y'all haven't really listened to Day & Age yet, then you are missing out foos.

Mid-week Man Candy

I want to preface this update with this...VEGAS IN 10 DAYS!!!!!

... that is all

Sooo we do have a list and a general order of who we are supposed to run when...but I saw "He's Just Not That in to You" Monday and decided to break all the rules. So here's to you Justin Long. You are the most adorable computer pitcher EVER. Your nerdy adorableness (which I feel I (Katy) reference a lot when doing man candy posts...obviously I have a type) made your character in the movie just lovable and awesome. I can remember the days back when you were on "Ed." Ahh memories. So here's to you, Justin.

ffiore957 (11:41:21 PM): you just added eric ripert, so i get like 5 freebies
SkitchKD (11:41:26 PM): no way!
SkitchKD (11:41:28 PM): not fair
ffiore957 (11:41:41 PM): haha
SkitchKD (11:41:44 PM): he's french
SkitchKD (11:41:46 PM): he's automatically hot
ffiore957 (11:41:52 PM): he's also about 70
SkitchKD (11:42:22 PM): he's like 43
ffiore957 (11:42:27 PM): i know, i looked it up too
SkitchKD (11:42:33 PM): it says 43-44
ffiore957 (11:42:46 PM): because wikipedia is the most reliable source
ffiore957 (11:42:53 PM): i could change it to 70 right now

Mid-week Man Candy

Another week, another major oversight in Man Candy history. How could we ever forget Ewan McGregor? He has made some excellent movies (especially Moulin Rouge and Shallow Grave) and he has been really good in some terrible movies (I'm talking about you, The Phantom Menace). He's also a pretty good singer, and he has an awesome Scottish accent. I'm not ashamed to admit this: I (Jess) own one or two of his Obi-Wan Kenobi action figures. You know what, we're all friends here, I can tell the truth - it's more like 10. OK, fine. It's actually 2 boxes of stuff in a closet at my parents' house and one action figure on my desk at work. But that's only because he's such a great actor. So thanks, Ewan, for being so awesome that my nerdiness cannot hide.

This is the world that we live in...

So I (Katy) have told this story to a few people but I am going to put it out there for everyone since it's a lot easier then telling people one-by-one. Now, we normally don't write personal blog entries here, but this is something I want to disseminate.

Yesterday morning, I woke up to an e-mail from the CEO of Clarity Media Group (the company that owns my paper) saying they were shutting down the operations of the Baltimore Examiner, one of the two papers I work for. As you can imagine, my mind starts churning and I start to panic. Without two papers to work on, there would be no need to keep the entire staff of my office of 24 designers and copy editors.

I do not work on Thursdays because I go to class, so every piece of information I received was from second-hand sources aka my co-workers on gchat and text. Through this I find out that 5-6 people are going to be losing their jobs. Those who are laid off would work til the close of the paper (Feb 15) then get paid until the end of March and our boss would let us know by Monday. As any rational person would do, I start to panic. It's a very uneasy feeling knowing your job is in limbo. This isn't a boy breaking up with you or a paper you are stressed out with - this is your job. Your livelihood. Also, for those of you who know (and some of you who don't), I am having surgery in the beginning of March and having health insurance is sorta a vital part of this.

I go about my day, go to class (which actually provided a good distraction), then came home to hear that my boss had to make her decisions last night and that I should know soon. I, thankfully, still have a job, but 6 people, 6 good hard-working people, a few of them my good friends, will be unemployed in two weeks time.

You go about your day listening to all this crap about how bad the economy is and how Home Depot and all these other companies are laying off thousands of people. The House is passing a stimulus package to try and get our economy working again. A lot of it feels really distant and like there is no way it could happen to you. But these are tough times and a lot of people are losing their jobs. It's a scary time and I am so grateful that I still have a job. But it won't make it any easier that in two weeks, my office is going to lose 6 great people.

So yea, that is all. Thanks to everyone (including my BFF Jess) for talking to me yesterday and helping me get thru this craziness somewhat sanely. Well, really not sanely at all actually.

Mid-week Man Candy

I know I am cutting it really close with man candy this week, but I just got back from seeing this week's man candy live and in person and let me tell ya, he is still as hot as ever.

Here's to you Brandon Flowers, aka lead singer for my favorite band, The Killers. Jess and I realized again how we had forgotten him all this time and it's such an error on our part. He is just as hot today as he was when we first saw him live our sophomore year of college. The way he plays his keyboard and moves around the stage with such grace and ease...AHH. So amazing. I tried to find the best pic of him sans his weird Sam's Town mustache. I was going to put one with eyeliner from his Hot Fuss days but I think this works perfectly. So here's to you Brandon.

P.S. I was going to try and Twitter the set list as it happened, but I was way too excited about every song to take the time and type it in.

The dawning of a new era

OK, so inauguration was pretty sweet. It's hard to explain, but there is this crazy energy that is coursing all over the city. I(Katy) went to class today and as I was walk around Dupont Circle...everything just seemed more alive. Anywho, I think the reader's of this blog know that we (Jess & Katy) are Obama fans. However, as I(Katy) was re-watching his speech from Tuesday (I'm a nerd...leave me alone. I'm also going to be studying speechwriting soon so I want to listen to good speeches. Oh yea, and Obama's speechwriter is hot). There is totally an error in the speech. Obama says that he is the 44th person to take the oath of office. As I'm sure more American history buffs know, Grover Cleveland served two non-consecutive terms as POTUS. He was counted twice in terms of the number of presidents, however, he did say the oath twice which means technically, there have only been 43 people to have taken the oath of office. Tsk, tsk. Do these speechwriters not have copy editors? Just wanted to share.

McCluca has been Twitter-fied

As we are sure some of our faithful readers have noticed, we have recently added a Twitter feed to our wonderful blog (look right). We've decided that we might "live blog" some events...aka LOST premier last night and our trip to Vegas in a month's time. I (Katy) have never really gotten the whole Twitter phenomenon...I mean...is that what a Facebook status is for? But for the purposes of this blog, Twitter provides a great means for us to keep you readers up to date on what we are doing/thinking without posting a bunch of useless posts. We think that the Vegas Twitter feed is going to be the best example of this since we will both be together and able to update y'all every moment of everyday. So let us know how y'all respond to the Twitter and if you have any suggestions of events we could Twitter in the future.

Am I that predictable?

ffiore957 (10:08:58 PM): btw, it's almost the blog's 1st birthday
SkitchKD (10:09:03 PM): i know!
SkitchKD (10:09:06 PM): what are we gonna do?
ffiore957 (10:09:17 PM): well you're probably going to post a picture of matt ryan
ffiore957 (10:09:22 PM): i don't know what i'm going to do

Mid-week Man Candy

This week's Man Candy is Michael Vartan. It's a travesty that he has never been Man Candy before. How could we forget Vaughn, Sydney's super-hot CIA contact on Alias? We cried so hard when he "died" (I guess that's a spoiler, but really, you should have already watched Alias). He also played the teacher in Never Been Kissed. Oh, and he's French. I can't believe Jennifer Garner ever broke up with him. Ben Affleck is a definite downgrade. So we apologize, Michael Vartan, for neglecting you all this time. It won't happen again.

Mid-week Man Candy

I have been excited about posting this guy for a long time.

Here's to you, Joshua Malina aka Will Bailey from the West Wing and Jeremy from Sports Night - two of my favorite shows EVER. Aaron Sorkin likes using the same actors in all his shows which works out well for me since I absolutely love Joshua Malina. He's nerdily adorable. I'm fairly certain he was also on that briefly lived show Big Shots (which also feature Michael Vartan ... who I am just now realizing has not been Man Candy and that might prove to be most egregious). So here's to you, Joshua. I will always watch my DVDs of WW and SN just to bask in your adorableness.

Mid-week Man Candy

It's the first Man Candy of the year! We have to start things out right.

Can you believe "Clueless" came out 14 years ago? I feel so old. That movie was, and still is, awesome. Paul Rudd was so cute as Josh, the nerdy ex-step-brother, and he's still hot 14 years later. It seems like he's in about 90% of the movies I watch these days, which is fine with me. I checked IMDB and it looks like he has some good movies coming out soon, so we have more greatness to look forward to in 2009.

Jam of the week

This is Sour Cherry by The Kills. I found it on OMFGG (Official Music from Gossip Girl..don't make fun, it's an awesome CD). Also as a side note, I (Katy) pick these with no input from Jess. That is all.
